Setting up Internet Connection in the Windows XP Environment for the SRH Network

On the Windows Desktop, click Start > Control Panel.
[For the Classic menu, click Start > Setting > Control Panel.]

In the Control Panel Window, click Network and Internet connections.

In the Network and Internet Connections Window, click Network Connections.

On the left hand side of the Network Connections Window, click Create a new connection to invoke the New Connection Wizard.

When the Welcome to the New Connection Wizard Window appears, click the OK button to proceed.

In the Network Connection Type Window, select the Connect to the Internet option and click the Next button.

In the Getting Ready Window, select the Set up my connection manuallyoption and click the Next button.

In the Internet Connection Window, select the Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password option and click the Next button.

In the Connection Name Window, type SRH in the text box provided to identify this connection is for the Student Residence Halls Network and click the Next button.

In the Internet Account Information Window, enter your student ID as theUser name and your own personal password in the respective text boxes. Check the option Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection. Click the Next button.

When the Completing the New Connection Wizard Screen appears, select the option Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop and click the Finish button to complete the setting procedure.

To make a connection to the SRH Network, just click the shortcut icon SRHon the Windows Desktop. When the User name and Password are being asked, type your own student number and password for the authentication. Wait for the Connection screens with "Connecting through WAN miniport (PPPOE)" and "Registering your computer on the network" messages appear. Once a connected message is given, you can then access the Internet services.
